Judge Grubich has a long history of service to his country and community. His extensive legal background gives him a strong foundation upon which to continue his service as District Court Judge. In addition, Judge Grubich brings to the bench common sense, integrity, a cool temperament, calm demeanor, and thoughtfulness all of which have been developed through a lifetime of broad, distinguished experience. Judge Grubich is uniquely qualified to serve the crucial role of District Court Judge and, with your support, intends to continue it for years to come.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Prior to his appointment to District Court Judge, Judge Grubich served as the Standing Master, a judicial role, for the Eighth Judicial District Court for three years primarily presiding over family law matters (i.e., divorces, parenting actions, protective orders, etc.) and assisted Ret. Judge Greg Pinski with the Veteran and adult treatment courts. Judge Grubich was appointed District Court Judge by Governor Greg Gianforte in July 2021. He presides over all civil and criminal matters that come before the Court to final determination and trial.   

Judge Grubich has earned the respect of the legal community and is known for his fairness, impartiality, respectful and dignified temperament, and his ability to effectively manage a busy judicial docket. Judge Grubich will follow the law as written and is just what Cascade County needs.

Judge Grubich

VETERAN

Judge Grubich enlisted in the United States Air Force when he was 17 years old and served from 1988 to 1992. His occupational specialty was Security Specialist. He was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana where he provided air base ground defense and conducted alarm response and security patrols in the nuclear missile fields in Montana. He remained in Montana throughout his service until his honorable discharge in 1992.

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Judge Grubich was a patrol officer and investigator with the Harvard, Illinois Police Department from 1995 to 2004. He was trained and qualified as an investigator, evidence technician, and juvenile officer and specialized in DUI enforcement. He patrolled the streets, investigated crime, and worked closely with the County Attorney’s Office during the prosecution phase. He served as president of his Fraternal Order of Police union chapter and was highly respected by his fellow officers.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Judge Grubich has been active in the Cascade County Community. David has served on the board and as president of The Fortnightly, a social dinner and dance club in Great Falls. Judge Grubich was actively involved in the Cascade County Bar Association and the Cascade County Law Clinic over several years serving as secretary, treasurer, and president of both of those organizations. He has been involved with Eagle Mount Great Falls for years and has been serving on the Board of Directors since 2017. He attended and was involved in Leadership Great Falls through the Chamber of Commerce from 2013 through 2015. Judge Grubich was awarded the Robert T. Goff Pro Bono Award in 2017 for providing free legal representation and access to justice for individuals who could not have otherwise afforded it.    

PERSONAL

Judge Grubich and his wife, Valerie, reside in Great Falls with their son, Evan. Evan is 6 years old and attends public school. Evan is the joy of their life and has done a good job keeping them busy, young, and smiling. Valerie is an attorney and law clerk for the Federal Bankruptcy Judges serving on the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.

Judge Grubich enjoys spending time with his family, working with his hands, swimming, hiking, taking small trips around Montana, and enjoying all the wonderful things our great state has to offer. He and Valerie have renovated several Great Falls homes in the past few years and were awarded Most Improved Rental Property in 2021 by NeighborWorks Great Falls.
